The Bank of East Asia

Cyberbanking

Our Commitment to Security

We are committed to providing you with a secure cyber banking experience that protects your confidential information. Our employees are trained on our security policies and procedures and work diligently to protect the integrity of your information.

3 Levels of Protection

  • Multi-Factor User Authentication to prevent unauthorized attempts to login to Cyberbanking
  • Secure communications between you (your browser) and our Cyberbanking servers
  • Secure network environment in which the Cyberbanking servers and customer information database reside

User Authentication

The Bank of East Asia, New York Branch employs multi-factor authentication to ensure user authorization. Your user ID and confidential password, as well as information stored on your computer, protect against others from accessing your Cyberbanking services.

  • Your user ID serves to identify you and your account relationship with The Bank of East Asia.
  • Your password serves to authenticate your identity.
  • Your Site key tells you that you have reached the genuine login page for Cyberbanking.
  • A browser-based secure cookie with an individualized credential is stored as a second factor of authentication, in addition to your user ID and password, when you enroll the computer(s) you regularly use to conduct Cyberbanking activities.

Login attempts are constantly monitored.

  • We will allow you to enter your password only a limited number of times.
  • Too many incorrect passwords will result in the locking of your Cyberbanking account until you call us to reactivate.
  • Challenge questions are presented if the computer being used is not recognized.
  • As an added safeguard, Cyberbanking access "times out" after a specified period of inactivity.

Secure Communications

The security of communications between you (your browser) and our servers is ensured via encryption.

  • Encryption scrambles messages exchanged between your browser and our Cyberbanking servers.
  • When you visit the Cyberbanking sign-on page, a secure session is established using a protocol called Transport Layer Security (TLS).
  • The TLS protocol aims primarily to provide privacy and data integrity between two communicating computer applications, when secured by TLS connections between a client (e.g. a web browser) and a server.
  • For your protection, Cyberbanking of The Bank of East Asia New York Branch requires your browser to connect at 128-bit TLS encryption. You will need a browser that supports this level of encryption to access Cyberbanking functions.

Network Security

The network is structured so that the computers storing your actual account information are not linked directly to the Internet. This configuration isolates the publicly accessible web servers from the data stored on our Cyberbanking servers and ensures only authorized
requests are processed.

  • Transactions initiated through the Internet are received by our web servers.
  • These web servers route your transaction through firewall servers.
  • Firewall servers act as a traffic cop between segments of our Cyberbanking network used to store information, and the public Internet.

Various access control mechanisms, including intrusion detection and anti-virus, monitor for and protect our systems from potential malicious activity. Additionally, our Cyberbanking servers are fault-tolerant, and provide for uninterruptible access, even in the event of various types of failures.
